Facebook Live Videos Are Disappearing – Here’s How to Save Yours Before They’re Gone

By Holly Hartman

Uh-oh, Facebook just dropped a bombshell: stored Facebook Live videos are going away.

If you've been using Facebook Live to connect with your audience, this change might feel like a gut punch. But don’t panic—I’ve got you covered.

Before your valuable content vanishes into the abyss of the internet, let’s rescue those videos and keep them safe.

In this step-by-step guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how to download and store your Facebook Live videos so you don’t lose all that juicy engagement, educational content, and (let’s be real) the occasional tech mishap that makes us all more relatable.

Why Are Facebook Live Videos Disappearing?

Facebook is constantly evolving (and by evolving, I mean messing with things we actually use). Starting February 19, 2025, all new Facebook Live videos will only be stored for 30 days before being automatically deleted. Older Live videos will also be removed in phases over the coming months.

If you haven’t manually saved your videos elsewhere, they’re on a countdown to oblivion. This means if you rely on Facebook Live for your business, coaching, marketing, or community building, now is the time to download and store your content before it vanishes for good.

How to Save Your Facebook Live Videos Before They’re Gone

Alright, let’s get down to business. Here’s your quick and easy guide to downloading your Facebook Live videos before they disappear forever.

Step 1: Locate Your Facebook Live Videos

Where did you go live?

  • Personal Profile: Navigate to your profile → Click on ‘Videos’ tab.

  • Business Page: Go to your page → Click on ‘Videos’ or ‘Live’ section.

  • Facebook Group: Click on the ‘Media’ tab under ‘Videos’ inside the group.

Pro Tip: If you go Live in a private Facebook Group, you may need admin or moderator access to download videos. If you’re not an admin, it’s time to make friends with one.

Step 2: Download Your Facebook Live Videos

Facebook doesn’t make this as easy as it should be, but here’s how to do it:

📌 Downloading from Your Profile or Business Page:

  1. Open the Live video you want to save.

  2. Click on the three dots (⋮) menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Select "Download video."

  4. Save it to your device or cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, an external hard drive—whatever keeps your digital life organized).

📌 Downloading from a Facebook Group (Admin Only):

  1. Open the video post.

  2. Click on the three dots (⋮) menu in the top-right corner.

  3. If "Download Video" appears, click it and save the file.

  4. If "Download Video" doesn’t appear, try this:

    • Play the video.

    • Right-click on it and choose "Save Video As."

    • Choose a folder and hit save.

🚨 Heads Up: If the video was originally posted by someone else, you may not have permission to download it. Time to reach out and ask nicely!

Step 3: Store Your Videos Like a Pro

Now that you have your Facebook Live videos safely downloaded, let’s talk about where to store them so they’re easy to access and repurpose later.

Best Places to Store Your Videos:

Google Drive – Free (up to 15GB) and easy to share.

Dropbox – Simple storage with team collaboration options.

YouTube (Private or Unlisted) – Keeps them accessible for embedding.

External Hard Drive – Because sometimes, the old-school way is best.

Vimeo – A great option if you want high-quality playback without YouTube’s distractions.

🚀 POP Tip: If you plan to repurpose your videos for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or blog content, consider editing them into bite-sized clips before uploading.

What’s Next?

Now that you’ve saved your Facebook Live videos, let’s talk about the future. If Facebook won’t store your Lives anymore, how can you keep streaming seamlessly in your groups without losing your content?

In Part Two, I’ll walk you through the best alternative platforms and tools to keep your Live videos accessible, searchable, and valuable long after the broadcast ends. Stay tuned!
